NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS COMMITTEE (Elected)

BYLAWS AND SOCIETY REGULATIONS:
This committee shall be composed of one professional member elected from each district society.  Each member shall serve a term of one year, and may serve two consecutive full terms.  The President of ASCLS-PA shall appoint the Chair from the elected members.  No officer, director, elected or appointed representative of this society shall be a member of this committee.

DUTIES:

1.      Notify the president of each district society on or before January 1st of all elected persons whose terms expire at the next annual meeting.

2.      Notify district societies and members of this society that nominations are in order and solicit their cooperation in obtaining qualified candidates.

3.      Initiate direct contact with qualified persons to be nominees, in the event of an insufficient number of nominations to complete the slate.

4.      Verify that the nominees possess those qualifications prescribed by the Bylaws and Society Regulations for a specific elected position and that such candidates agree to candidacy.

5.      Publish the slate of at least two nominees for each office, together with the qualifications of such nominees, no less than thirty days before the next annual meeting in “The Pennsylvania Newsletter”.

6.      Prepare a ballot for election by the House of Delegates at the annual meeting.

7.      Distribute, collect and tabulate ballots at the meeting and prepare a report to include total votes cast, votes necessary for election and votes received by each candidate for each office.  The report is presented to the House of Delegates by the committee Chair.

8.      Send a report of committee activities to the President at least one month before the Board of Directors meetings.


NOTES:

§         Send list of people not included on ballot to President-elect, to use as he/she sees fit in the selection of people who are willing to serve wherever he/she chooses to place them.

§         Each name submitted by a President or district society Nominations and Elections Chair should be accompanied by a permission slip and curriculum vitae.

§         Qualifications for office:  A Professional or Emeritus member of this Society shall be eligible to hold office, serve on the Board of Directors, or be elected to an elected committee, provided he has been a Professional or Emeritus member for at least one year and is in good standing.

§         Nominees may be required to prepare a statement in response to the question “Why Am I Running For This Office?”  Oral declarations will be presented by the nominees at the House, prior to the elections.
